Tet holiday: Family, Food, and Fun

Tet holiday: Family, Food, and Fun

This Tet, I traded the beaches of Vung Tau for the cool air of Hanoi, flying north to spend a whole week with my grandparents. Because we live far apart, we don’t get to see each other often, so every reunion feels like a big celebration. And Tet is the perfect excuse—it’s basically the ultimate family festival.

The house was alive from the moment I arrived. My grandparents welcomed me with warm smiles (and plenty of food, of course). Soon, cousins started showing up, and suddenly the place turned into a mix of laughter, chatter, and the sound of wrappers being torn off holiday snacks. We played silly games, teased each other, and took photos that will definitely resurface at future family gatherings.

Every day had its own rhythm. Morning tea with my grandparents, listening to their stories about Tet traditions. Afternoons spent with cousins, running around, joking, and sneaking extra slices of bánh chưng. Evenings were all about family dinners—long tables, endless dishes, and conversations that bounced from old memories to new plans.

What made the week so special wasn’t just the holiday rituals, but the little moments in between. Sitting together, laughing at inside jokes, or just enjoying the feeling of being surrounded by people who know you best. Hanoi gave us the festive backdrop, but family gave the week its sparkle.

By the end of the trip, I felt full—of food, of joy, and of memories. Tet always flies by too quickly, but this week reminded me how much fun it is to be together. And now, I’m already counting down to the next reunion.
